Default 70mm Throttle body

Hi ,

I am looking at a new alloy throttle body on ebay ... one guy makes / sells them in Japan ...

Apart from them looking really nice would there being any gain in anyway on fitting one of these??

"We are proud to introduce a new generation of billet aluminum throttle bodies. Newly design when beauty come with performance, improve image of your car. Our new throttle bodies are available in 70mm designed for use with standard EJ20 (GD verion only cannot use with GC) intake manifold. No need to weld anything just plug and play on your intake manifold. This throttle body is twin ball bearing shaft as you can see from the picture. "

Read somewhere about upto 15bhp gain due to more air getting in.... could this be true?

You need to have the inlet manifold matched to the TB not just a bolt on, in the case of the pre 99 manifolds anyway.

Possibly if you are up around 600bhp but at 300-400bhp there are other restrictions which limit the power way before the throttle body. The std turbo outlet for example is only 42mm bore.
I still use the std throttle body on my race car.

Missed his bit.

I can’t see much gain form that alone, people make 600hbp whilst retaining the oe TB so it’s not really an issue of restriction. More air yes and that will ultimately mean more power etc but you will also need to Ideally flow more air or you may actually loose a little low down power it would need to be mapped to suit.

Looks nice though.

Andy: Would you not upgrade to one of these then?

I would have considered it if it was a simple bolt-on but I have a GC8 throttle body. I actually have a 75mm TB which I bought early last year, just never got round to adapting the original version 5 ISCV to it.

I would say not. There are MY02 cars out there making nearly 3 times the std bhp on a std throttle body.
You would be better with an Sti intercooler at your current level, then a set of injectors, then a turbo then a long long long list before you need a throttle body upgrade.

I have 90mm Q45 throttle body sitting next to me =) Not sure how to adapt it but will find a way when I got my new engine+turbo.
