Any need to keep scoop undertray on fitting FMIC ?
As above,
The scoop undertray obviously directs air to the TMIC, but when a FMIC is fitted, is there any need for it as a "weather barrier" ?
I note that some folk sell the undertrays on their Newage Sti's at the same time as selling the TMIC - is the engine pretty safe from the elements when the undertray is removed or is ir necessary to "blank" the scoop in some way ?
cheers for any views on this,
Andy

no more really than it did with the tmic on there.. the air / water still flows though the scoop and to the same location below where the tmic was only there is no back up of the air when it is trying to force through the intercooler hence the need for the undertray to stop it flowing around the tmic.. no issue on my car the last 100k miles with no undertray..

You can get a bonnet vent that sits inverted in the OE bonnet. It does not scoop air into the engine compartment, it's supposed to help to increase air through the compartment. Similar to the EVO.

On fitting a FMIC to an STi 6 I sold the O/E TMIC. Sometime later when the purchaser of the TMIC had it fitted and was disappointed with the results, I suggested he take the undertray. I then noticed that under bonnet temperatures on my car with the FMIC which I had already been monitoring rose quite noticably.
After going to the expense of a replacement under bonnet tray, temperatures returned to normal.
Without looking up old notes I think the temperature difference was 12-15 deg C. under normal running.
Subsequent testing leads me to believe that Subaru paid a lot of attention to air flow under the bonnet and over the engine.
