Default Lifespan of a NGK pfr7b?

Hello,

Just wanted to know the average lifespan of the above spark plugs in miles and months?

I seem to keep changing mine every 6-7 months or 4000 miles.

Is this normal?

btw - running on Tesco SUL or Optimax @ 1.2bar (scoobyECU)

Thanks

If you change them according to the Subaru service schedules on the newer cars, IIRC they're only changed every 30k miles / 3 years. Mine (02 WRX at about 1.2 bar, fitted with the 7s, better oil etc, but serviced at book intervals) recently had the 60k service, and ran a lot better after it.

So therefore if my memory of the service schedule is correct, they'll last 30k miles and still work OK but their performance has probably dropped off noticably by then, so a bit less is probably optimum.

I seem to remember a thread by Bob Rawle suggesting that they last about 7-10k miles ........ which is about twice my yearly mileage...before they go off !!

This was when I was running a TD05 at about 1.4 bar

I've just replaced mine after a year (somewhere between 8k and 10k miles, cant quite remember exact mileage). I was getting hesitation on boost (about 1.2bar). Just put new ones in and they seem to have solved the problem so I would say 7-10k miles is about spot on in my case.

You could possibly try some iridiums - may give a slightly longer service life.

Turns out the problem is still there so its likley there was a fair bit of life left in these plugs at 8k miles.

The 6b I had in my 93wrx did 40k and one of them is now providing good service in my lawnmower.
