Help on a non starting WRX
I bought a WRx that needed a replacment cylinder head which i got and fitted. On trying to start the car im getting nothing. Im getting spark, and fuel and compression is good on all 4 cylinders after both heads being reconned. I do have 2 very suspect sensors. Crank and cam sensor but the ecu aint bringing up the codes for these to say its faulty.
I did get a different ECU. Was one from a 1994 WRX which is the same year as mine but i added a ESL daughterboard. Im just wondering if anyone else has any ideas as to where or what to look for there. Turns over but thats all it seems to do...

timing is also 100% as i check and double checked. Im a bit unsure as to which way round the coil plugs should go but that would only produce a missfire. Really puzzled as to what would stop it igniting.

Is the ESL chip installed correctly?
Try placing the chips at the top of the sockets where the spring tension is strongest. You will need an EPROM chip extractor, few quid on Eblag.
This happened to me..

well the ecu was second hand from ebay... as i sold mine to a user on here as it already had a chip soldered in. This ecu came with a chip holder already soldered in. So he obviously had a chip running in it. Il see if i can borrow my mates ecu.

If you no you have to dodgy sensors you should address this regardless if there is a fault code or not.
You need to check the injector plugs are the correct way round, and confirm by the wiring loom that the coils are correct if your not sure.
I would also put the ecu back to how it was until you get the car running.

well i thought compression was good... Did a test tonight and the drivers bank was around the 140mark. The passengers side was around 100... sprayed oil and did the test again... no improvment so i have leaky valves. How can this be as they were just rebuilt by an engineering company. Im raging.. ..

Plugs out, clean and re gap.
Black plugs go on back coils...
gotta be looking at a suspect ECU after that or at least confirm the one you have works in another vehicle !
Check what you fiddled with first, then once confirmed ok, come back to your engine.

not damaged the teeth on the crank pulley (for the crank sensor) have you... seen that before and took a freakin age to fault find that one I can tell ya.

come to think of it.. there are little scores on it... looks like its been hitting the tensioner pully.... just tiny scuffs in it. none broken of halved so i doubt that would interfere with the operation of it.

cant think what the problem could be..... Its still not starting!!
No fault codes, its getting fuel, getting spark. Still not sure as to the correct positioning of the injector plugs... it did cough but now its just not wanting to start. Timing is 100% correct. its just turning over!!!
I have noticed that the crank pulley lobes are hitting off the tensioner pulley slightly and have caused a slight groove on the outside edge facing the sl;am panel.
Can anyone shed some light or some fault finding scenerios!!!

also... when i turn it over by hand when the lobes pass the crank sensor the pump primes... this is when the ignition is on and im turning the engine over clockwise....
also the boost solenoid is going daft and clicking away... but ive been told thats due to the aftermarket chip??

Is it holding fuel pressure ?
Boost sol shouldn't go mad unless you have the test mode connectors plugged in under the dash.
Injector plugs (wiring) wont reach the wrong ones so dunno how you got that mixed up..
You need to get back to basics and look at the things you have touched since it was last running.
This worries me greatly...
The crank pulley is nowhere near the tensioner... or at least shouldn't be
In focus pictures speak a thousand words !!!
