Help with overboost / fuel cut.
Hi all,
I have just had a full decat pipe on my02 wrx and when they fitted it they ripped the thread on the lamba sensor , so i currently have the "check engine light " on ( but i do have the sensor to fit ).. also fitted some new samco hosing last weekend and attemped to fit a new intercooler but it was too large so i put the old one back on ,
anyway ... here's my problem .
went out last night on the motorway i put my foot down in 5th and when it reached about 4k it made a jutter and scared the sh*t out of me as it nearly cut out... tryed it again and it done the same,
what do i need to do ?
chris

found you....LOL
due to the decat it may be causing a boost spike and hence causing you to hit the fuel-cut safety limit.
You can control this by adjusting the size of the restrictor in the boost pipes.
If you look at the 3mm boost/vacum pipe that comes out of the turbo, it should join to a t-piece. 1 part going to the turbo actuator and the other side going off over the the boost control solenoid.
Just before this t-piece i.e between the turbo and t-piece there is a little brass restrictor inserted in the hose. IIRC the hole in this restrictor is around 1mm.
If you open this hole up very slightly i.e by about 0.1mm this should help control the boost. Take very small amounts out each time as it can make quite a difference.
If you mess it up, I'm sure you can knock up another
If you have a boost gauge to monitor the change all the better......
