Default Lack of power....

All.

On going sarga of the poorly Legacy GT-B. (Or Not)

Quick re-cap.... few months ago had the cam belt replaced, new (org) springs fitted and Oil and filter change. Oil used was a 10/40 good grade oil.

Since this the car has ran poor, idles and runs fine just lacking torque and also noticable louder.

When cold clangy, clappy sound which I have put down to piston slap - not ever noticed this before the above work.

The belt has been checked by same garage and did seem slightly out on the top left pulley but was told this is normal on the EJ20R

My question.......

Could crap oil cause the engine to be louder in turn causing the knock sensor to retard the timing or could I be looking at the start of bottom end failure?

When people's bottom ends started to fail what were the tell tail signs.......running wise, engine sound?

Sound does not seem present if you rev the engine from the bay, only when in the car (could prob be when under loadthat causes)

I am prob just worrying over nothing but its better to ask...

I am booking the car in at another garage to have the cam timing re-checked but they have verbally recommened 5/40 Valvoline as 10/60 is to heavy they say for a none track car? thoughts? I am told that in Japan these run on 10/60......

Kind Regs (but worried)

Wow....Well I did think this as initially when car came back from garage I flashed out the CEL and it did have a stored code to reflect MAF.

Cleared code and after 2000miles - nothing has come back......But I hear what you are saying....

Got to try and find a new MAF now (its the green label not the orange if that means anything to you.)

What makes you say the above - experience?

Many thanks
