Default Using lots and lots of petrol!

I have a 94 classic impreza wrx import. It had a td05 turbo, apart from a half exhaust system and an air filter its completly standard from what i can see.

But my petrol works out till about 30p a mile on petrol and thats not even booting it. thats below 3000 rpm driving.
I also get pops out the exhaust when boosting sometimes.
Other thing is that its no quicker then a 2000 4wd uk spec, which from what i thought it should be a little bit quicker but they were dead set. The 2000 does not use not even close to the same amount of petrol yet its just as quick?

Only thing i can say about the petrol is i live on the isle of wight and we dont have motorways. so none of that is motorway driving. I dont know what steps i should take..
I put the air filter and exhaust on myself.

Thanks for looking look forward to your reply.

When was it last serviced? Maybe it could do with a fuel system clean out. What air filter is in it and what condition is it in?

Things that can affect fueling are your lamber sensor, maff, a failing fuel pressure reg and also the ecu assuming its after market?

Remember that you should be using super unleaded and your mates car will use regular so you will be getting less petrol for evey tenner, its well known that the imports do around 20 mpg whilst the uk models can get over 30. My95 jdm wrx uses about the same mate its just normal.

Just another thing, i'm having to replace my fuel filter neck because the old one is shot, believe this can also result in poor fuelling if it's past it's sell by date.
