Default Performance Headers, HOW MUCH!!!!

Thinking of buying some performance or aftermarket headers for my import MY01 STI. The price is outrageous!!!

Are they really worth the money??

How much BHP and Torque are they likely to increase my car by???

Be careful:

Unless you are gunning for a high output engine, say 350/380 + then forget them and fit a set of ported stock headers.

As a general rule the tube headers will give better results at the top end, the ported stock will give a fatter mid/low range.

They can be had from API Engines or Harvey, I think for £170 maybe?

Just so i get this right. Are you saying that API and Harvey will sell me a standard set that have been ported or they will port my headers for £170??

I would highly recommend not dealing with Harvey at the moment. If my situation doesn't change with him early next week i'll be contacting the police.

My opinion is .........

It's a market aimed at mugs ...... and mugs pay silly money.

Same market as the CockLink - that market is the gullible

You can have any OE headers ported, like i say its normally on an exchange basis, so you will most likely be charged say £100 surcharge, (if you having them fitted somewhere else, or by yourself) once you return the ones you remove your £100 is refunded.

Harvey is sometimes hard to get hold of, but I know API offer a porting service, and there refund policy on surcharges is instant

David Welcome to the API website will answer any questions you have mate

So? Lets see who knows what this 'PORTING' is ........

As far as I am aware it is simply cleaning up the ports and matching them more closely to the manifolds (NOT HEADERS!!!!!).

I used to do this in the 1970's ..... engines, these days, are so accurate that you are wasting your money ....

It is worth doing, i have no links before you ask, but back to back testing has been done on this mod.

If you compare standard HEADERS to ported ones you can see how much meat has been removed

Sorry about this folks. Mr Lewis! It's well past your bedtime. You have to be up early to change the clutch on your go-kart! Now come along and get to bed!

it all depends on your spec??? standard headers (ported) allow the car to make boost earlier !!! but aftermarket headers allow the car to make more boost than what standard headers can achieve !!! say for example you have a 20g turbo and standard headers !!! you might make full boost 400rpm earlier but you may only make 1.3bar max, with aftermarket headers you will make 1.5bar but achieve full boost 400rpm later !! this is just an example and not a fact on every vehicle

agreed your spec dictates what to go for, but have been told by reliable sources that for mildly tuned cars ported are the best bet to start with.
