when companies quote gains like this from bolt on mods, it usually includes a map tweak

sorry to go off on another topic.......you say a 20g will boost too 1.3 bar,can a standard 16g not boost to 1.3 bar? or are these figure's relative to the turbo fitted.ie: 1.3 on a 20g is more than 1.3 on a 16g...hope my question makes sence

They will boost to what they are mapped to do, at least 1.7 bar on some cars

pmsl thats why i said it my little quote at the end !! i was just using those little figures to give an idea on how aftermarket headers work each car is different and so is boost targets !! i was just saying aftermarket headers will let you run more boost and using an example

just taken my equal length headers / manifold off as i'm selling my scooby and i want them for the next one. they do make a difference. i found they give more torque gain than bhp. an example of this is, with the standard headers / manifold the car doesn't really like doing "a pslewis" 30mph in 5th gear. put the equals on and it'll sit there a treat. granted i don't think that will gain you tonnes of power but they will change the characteristics of the car.

porting will make a difference. take your headers / manifold off and look at the carbon build up line around the pipe hole. open it up and smoth it off and the gases will flow faster as they have a larger escape route. example of this on modern engines is the 325 and 328 inlet manifolds from bmw. the reason why there is only 1 bhp difference in the cars output. the 328 inlet manifold is more restrictive to keep the car under 200bhp. This is a german thing as cars over 200bhp in germany make the insurance go through the roof. put a 325 larger bore inlet manifold on a 328 and you'll get some good gains. i know this as i've done it.

Thats true ........................... driving ability means much more than BHP.

I mean, put an Impreza into the hands of, say, a Kiddie of 25-35 years old and you are not going to get the same ability and ground coverage as in the hands of a 78 year old with masses of experience.

Like I said .... it's the drivers skill that counts - you clearly need the extra BHP to cover the ground as an experienced driver can do.

Agreed with driving skills one for sure.
I mean, Don Palmer or such suitably skilled personage would pi$$ all over me in his standard 'what-ever-he-drives' car against me in my Subaru.
But the thing is Pete, whatever floats your boat innit surely?
Why do you get so passionate about ppl spending money on their own cars?
You enjoy yours as standard and we pay lots on ours
And lots is the key phrase for me! LOL.
Got new headers on mine but i ain't sure i am getting the full 500 bhp with them on as opposed to the 280 without, what you think Pete?
And i aint got a cocklink to check

Being more experienced does not make you a better driver!

If your a **** driver you remain a **** driver, unless your like me and have been Police trained!!!
