Can I identifiy my engine type from these numbers?
Can I identify exactly what type of engine I have from the engine number at the rear of the engine above the starter (mine is 286953) or the very rough looking 4 digit code which is on the top left of the block above the cam cover (mine is 0335 I think). I also have a couple of other engines I want to identify. Two engines where bought off ebay so cant confirm the car they came from. Any ideas or suggestions of where I can get the information?

I've bought a second hand engine and have the same problem,
read through previous threads, there's a link to an earlier thread which suposedly had info the match between engine numbers & engine spec but the links not working.
Can anyone help?
Would a Subaru parts dept. be able to shed some light??
