Default 1st gear acceleration

i have a classic and wondered if jittery acceleration when you nail 1st gear is normal.
What I mean is it isnt smooth, when the turbo starts to kick in you feel a boost then it sorta stops / judders (at this point i ease of gas a little this stops the juddering) and then i press gas pedal to the floor again and i get maximum boost.

is this just a case of it strugglin to get tracktion whilst the turbo is winding up. and i think i have a budget japanese make tyre on to boot(maybe not the best)

Doesnt sound the norm ..... could be the dreaded MAF, Coil pack, spark plug etc etc scenario just starting. There's lots of useful info on each with a search.

Have you checked the cel light for any codes?

it only does it in 1st gear, all other gears seem fine and smooth.

ill try investigate more by noting the rpmwhen it stops and starts and keep pedal on the floor this time to see if it still does it.

ill check plugs and clean MAF too

maybe its just me as im a scooby newbie really so dont know what to expect from the car properly

Dont forget to check for any codes via the cel and then clear it before you do anything, you'll then be able to check later if any other codes are produced.

My old MY94 UK used to do this. I never got to the bottom of it. I swapped most things and even remapped the ECU (several times ), but still didn't get to the bottom of it.
The only thing I didn't change was the fuel pump. And like yours it was only in 1st gear.

Even Power engineering and Barratts Motorsport couldn't solve it.
Infact PE made me feel rather sick when we were reproducing it on the road with the select monitor attached.
