Default Lambda Sensor or Coil Pack?

At least that's what I have been told is the problem!

Sympthoms are as follows:
After starting the car from cold, the rev's drift between approx 500 rpm to 1200. This will reduce as the engine warms up.

If the drive the car during this period, when I clutch in, coming to a halt, the revs will drop right down to 500. It looks like the engine is about to cut out but then it jumps back up.

Today it did cut out, when coming to a stop. And it does appear to be getting worse. i.e. sometimes it happens even when warmed up.

Can anybody provide me with a possible diagnoisis please?

Much appreciated,

Wes.

P.S. Its a V5 Sti Type R.

try cleaning idle control valve first ,costs nothing to do, and may cure the problem. Coil packs usually fail under load ie when driving hard.
If non of the above could be maf,try "the unplugging test "to see if the car stalls , when ticking over a crude but can tell you weather the ecu has bypassed the maf as it has failed.

as for lambda i'm may be wrong but i think they only start working properly when the engine is hot .

Yep sounds like that to me too!

Easy way to check, unplug it when the cars running. If it keeps running then the MAF needs replacing IMMEDIATELY!
If it stalls then youre fine.
