No doubt about it mine goes much quicker. If you use search on hee, about 12 months ago SNetters tried them on a rollong road. Some had BHP gains of 10-15 BHP.

Well worth it.

Panel Filter, Iridium Plugs great.

If you are going for serious power (over 300 bhp) then have the Induction Kit, if not, IMO the first 2, will give you a big rin.

I'm not knocking aftermarket filters,I have a K+N myself.

just remarking that theres no performance advantage in it....unless you have the STi branded filter which makes it worse

I think it was Harvey(?) that did some tests.

On a bunch of filters that he tried,I think the difference between the best and worst was 2bhp.The k+n was the best, the STi the worst...then of course theres the filtration properties to bear in mind

Elmer think your right about Harvey.

Did I dream this? didn't someone do a rolling road thing and found up to 5 BHP difference however, wasn't there something to do with the temprature??
As in hot day???

I still think the Sports Panel Filter is much sharper than the standards paper one.

Yourself??

Some interesting info in that thread.

Removing the snorkle/inner wing resonator reduced power by around 10 bhp. Air flow was disrupted and AFRs were effected.
Replacing the snorkle and power returned to the previous figure.
That's quite surprising, I have heard people rave about the improvement they get from removing this.

Interesting that the results are also endorsed by Mike Wood.

Personally I have had an STi filter and currently have a Green cotton one, have to say that I can't really tell the difference between any of them

Elmer, Got it! Tony Burns got a 12-15 bhp increase in his post .

I knew that I'd seen these numbers somewhere in that thread.
What do you think about these claims??

Yep I got good gains from an STi panel filter
The car did 2 runs prior to fitting, ran about 288bhp both times and 298lbs of torque, virtually no variation on the first 2 runs.
The filter was changed with the car still running on the rolling road, so a bit of heat soak the next 2 runs.... 299bhp and 300bhp, torque was 310lbs first run, 312lbs 2nd run (there were some . somethings in there) but it equated to 12bhp and 15lbs of torque increase, the engine was also more noticably freer running above 6.5k (8k red line) where as it felt strangled with the standard filter in, it ran much better beyond this after the change (plus a nice change in tune )
This test was done on a LADS rolling road day, lots of witnesses and the run was done at Prosport in Stockport
(car had about 1700 miles on the clock btw )

Yep, considering my car is standard apart from said panel filter, book quoted power figures for this car (JDM MY03 STI for which this filter was designed for) is 276bhp, it is in fact running 318bhp, JDM map, 99 ron fuel and octane booster, most of these cars wont get above 300bhp on just 99 ron fuel and octane booster on the JDM map, and this was done in front of 25-30 people.
I reported these finding back in 2004 when the car ran it originally, though if you want to test it out, go get a JDM STI (original fuel map) and test it.
The gains were not just 1 or 2 bhp, but 10-12bhp, rather considerable considering the car had been sitting running on a rolling road for 3-4 mins whilst the original filter was changed out.
It was also noticable on the road that the car was more free revving towards the top end of the rev range after changing the filter out also.

I was only trying to reassure myself that I had not imagined reading this somewhere.

You were not wasting my time for sure, I think the whole point of this SN thing is to get mixed views.

To me, we certainly have that.

I see you have a K & N Panel Filter yourself, what do you think of it V's Paper one and, if Mr Paper is the same, why the K&N?

The highly sensitive 'Elmer buttometer',tells me that aftermarket Filters have no performance gains at all over the std item.

I'm not a tech-head,I fix ships for a living..so don't shoot the messenger please

edit: English is my first language, but I still struggle with it!

I'm running 300hp and changing to a green filter just made more noise, no extra power at all. Been using the std subaru filter ever since, and at £12 it's cheap. Also I was worried about the filtration issues of these aftermarket filters, some are rather bad.
