Default e-bay chip

hello who has used this chip of e-bay and is it any good?

Subaru Impreza Turbo ECU Upgrade 1992 – 1996
You are bidding on a genuine Chip upgrade for your 1992 – 1996 Subaru Impreza Turbo UK / WRX / WRX RA / STi.

It is supplied by the person that mapped it,

It's not a copy.

It's not a chip with unknown contents.

The re-map will be the correct map for the car and 'NOT' just a generic map that fits every Impreza Pre 1996 ECU

The ECU's Onboard diagnostics and Check engine Warning light remain working 'As Normal' and you will 'NOT' have a permenant Check Engine Light on your dash. Unlike some of the other remap's/chip's available

This chip is not a cheap device to fool the ECU into running differently, but is a replacement ECU map for the standard ECU. It fits into the ECU and controls every ECU function.

History :

For 1992 – 1996 Impreza Turbo’s, Import WRX and STi, Subaru kindly made available a spare location on the ECU main board. This was used by STi and Group ‘N’ rally teams such as Prodrive to boost the performance of the standard car.

This is the only option available to correctly remap/tune a 1992 – 1996 Impreza, whilst retaining the standard ECU functions (i.e without piggy back boost and fuel controllers)

This chip is a genuine Fujistu 27C1028 device that was originally specified by Subaru for this purpose, and have since becme obsolete.

What does it do :

Boost raised to 16.11psi approx – Standard boost pressure is 11.47psi (UK and Pre Sept 1994 WRX), 12.7psi (Post Sept 1994 WRX) and 13.64psi (STi).(Setting the boost any higher can cause overboost/fuel-cut due to limitation of the standard map sensor)

Boost Control improved - As well as the boost target being set at 16.11psi, the boost control is also modified to bring boost in earlier

Fuel / Ignition Timing adjusted - these have been adjusted taking into account the increased boost. Plus it allows you to use regular Super Unleaded fuel of 97 RON rather then trying to emulate the 100 RON fuel (available in Japan) with octane booster

Fuel cut safety mechanism retained - Although this limit has been raised from approx 14psi to 18spi.

Speed Limiter removed - All imported WRX ans STi have a 112mph limiter programmed into the ECU map. This has been raised to 175mph.

Performance - Dependant on application and any other modification i.e exhaust/filter, this chip should boost performance by approx 40BHP.

Maps Available for :

1993 - 1996 UK Impreza Turbo Saloon & Wagon
1993 - 1994 WRX & WRX RA Saloon (240ps Spec)
1994 - 1996 WRX & WRX RA Saloon (260ps Spec)
1993 - 1996 WRX Wagon (220ps Spec)
1993 - 1996 STi 1, 2 and RA (280ps Spec)

Who am I :

I have personally created and supplied over 125 similar devices (named ‘ScoobyECU’ using an adaptor __ ScoobyEcu __ or SubaChip<96’ using the 27C1028 device) to fellow Subaru enthusiasts via ScoobyNet - The Subaru Impreza and Performance Car Community over the last few years, to some very happy customers..

This remap would cost in the region of £400 - £600, if obtained from any highly regarded Subaru tuning firm…..

Installation Instructions :

Instructions will be provided, but here's a summary

1. Locate the ECU, which is in the passenger foot-well, under the Alluminium kickplate.

2. Disconnect and remove the ECU

3. Remove the ECU lid

4. Fit the chip either direct to the board (see photo) or via a 28 Pin DIL socket (Provided).

5. Cut the ‘J1’ link resistor (see photo). Note….DO NOT CUT ‘L1’ WHICH LOOKS SIMILAR.

The ECU will then use the map on the chip rather then the map on the ECU main board

Could be ok. Personally I'd stay well clear of stuff of this nature from ebay.

Get is done by a professional tuning company instead.

Looks like Scott Taylor's listing to me. You will have no problems with him or the product. Does what it says on the tin.

Looks like a Scott.T listing to me as well. Scott.T's scoobyecu's and ESL chips are not 'dodgy'. Having read about these chips before getting one myself in my opinion they are excellent value for money and quite safe to use on a healthy engine. If you trawl through here you will find examples of cars fitted with the Scott.T scoobyecu with well over 100k miles on still going strong.

I ended up buying mine from ESL in the end because Scott did'nt have any for sale at the time. They do exactly what they say, raise boost, adjust fuel and timing. If in doubt do a search on here, very few bad things said about either of these chips. Scott's are reported to make slightly more BHP but that was apparently compared to an early version of ESL's chip, either way they are both good products.
With regards to your FMIC question, I've just got a replacement chip from ESL mapped for 440cc injectors and a FMIC. Be careful though as the FMIC has changed the way the car comes on boost on my 1993 WRX, it doesn't start pushing untill about 3500/3700RPM now which makes it a little less refined to drive around town, but get the revs up and it goes like a little rocket!

How did I make a blank statement???

The fact is that many so called 'chips' that are sold on ebay are nothing more than worthless bits of crap.

The guy asked for advice and I stated my opinion on the kind of stuff that can be bought on ebay.

At the end of the day it sounds like your chips are OK but there are many that are not. Simple fact.

Yes fine, but he was asking about my ECU upgrade and your response was to tar my ECU upgrade with the same brush as the 5p resistor mods (that are incorrectly called chips) and are, as you state - "worthless bits of crap".

So I will repeat my comment "please understand what your talking about before making a blanket statement" and the word "What" is in reference to the product and not your knowledge of ebay merchandise.
