Question Mileage / Reliability How far do they go ?

Have a 97 UK car, 122K miles
Mods to 300bhp at flywheel.
Borg & Beck standard size clutch 50K miles ago
Cambelt done early each time
Good Oil changed regularly
'Usual' tapping / slapping when cold but hardly noticable in the summer - goes completely when warm.

What's going to fall apart next and how long can I expect / hope it keeps going. Mainly motorway miles some wide open throttle fun but not much.

Cheers

I'm just doing a study on the length of pieces of string.
Trying to find a guide length :-)

lol, tbh 120k is high, but its not impossible for it to have a good few years left in it.

how does it run?

Hi

How's your gearbox holding out? ...Mine's a 97UK (~270bhp) with an API bottom-end @ 100k, but still got original gearbox.

Runs really well, I think.
Performace wise - great
My remapper said no odd noises from the det-cans.
Hardly uses any oil - despite cam covers leaking slightly
Getting about 27mpg - but I do a lot of motorway miles

Only gearbox niggle is sometimes it's a slight pain to get it into 1st. Overcome this by slipping into 2nd then into 1st. No wierd noises though.

my legacy is on 170000 and still going strong.... lets hope it stays that way!!! haha! flushing the engine and changing oil and filter every 1000 miles atm because its the only thing that keeps the tappets quiet!

I would skip using engine flush and change to a quality oil.. although you might be already of course.. my tappets went quiet when I went to Motul 15W50 oil.

fairly common.. you could try a different gear oil? mine used to be impossible when cold start to change down into 1st when approaching a junction.. but change to castrol syntrax sorted that..
