Default Hiss From Fuel Cap

Can anyone tell me what has happened to the hiss from my fuel cap?
Basically, I have replaced the OE fuel pump with a Walbro and now when I unscrew the fuel cap to put some juice in the hiss has disappeared. Plus I have quite a strong smell of petrol around the car but have no leaks at all.

Anyone any ideas?

Phil.

Its not really answer to yuor question but i'm guessing the hiss is from the tank being under vacuum. Does this mean that the tank vent is blocked or something? If it is then maybe the car will run better once unblocked.

The car is running great. I think you are right about the vacuum though.

At a guess the rubber seal that would have been removed to fit the new fuel pump has either split or is not fitted correctly. This will mean the tank is no longer sealed and so a vacuum will not be formed and you will smell petrol especially when the tankis full as it sloshes out of the seal and over the tank.

I'd remove the access hatch in the boot and check everything is fitted as it should.

probably a SNAKE trapped in your fuel cover. Have you been on a safari trip recently.

Id go with the seal in the boot either split or not fitted correctly. Some people use a sealent as well, it would certainly explain the strong petrol smell as well.

Exactly the same thing happened to me - I didn't have the rubber gasket down properly and my mapper said that every so often they got a strong smell of petrol coming from the car.

I re-seated the pump and the hiss has now returned when I open the petrol cap.

To be fair if you can smell petrol in your car you DO have a leak, it is most prob what has been mentioned before, just remove your rear seats the smell will prob be very strong around the hatch area
