Thumbs up New exhaust needed

Hi,
My 93 WRX has just failed an MOT with a leaky centre section and emissions.
Where can i buy a new centre section and CAT from for an improt as i can't find anywhere that does them. Got loads of offers for second hand ones though.

Many thanks
Matt

You don't need a cat for a 93wrx (i saw your thread about failing the emissions).
Can you not get the centre section welded up?

Thanks for the reply,
I've read loads on not needing cats for the emission test for the early cars, but every time i've had an MOT done with many different garages it has been done for a car with a cat.
I'd like to see some up to date offical paperwork to tell me otherwise because no garage seems to be aware of this.
The car is getting old now and the centre section is corroded so i just want a shiny new one to stop me worrying at MOT time.
I've got some offers down to £35 for a secondhand centre section with cat but would prefer a new one.

Cheers
Matt

The rules regarding the MOT are a little foggy on the imports.

A 93 WRX doesnt actually exist on the system, and the MOT computerisation system was stating all pre august 1995 cars are NON CAT test unless you can find an exact match. Unless clarified otherwise then I would say this is still the case, although this message seems to now be missing from the system.

Also a leaking exhaust will effect the lambda reading, cats seldom fail and if there is a fault its more likely the lambda sensor itself.

My advice is to take the car to a garage that does a lot of jap performance cars, as they will be more likely to know the rules for the car in question. Where abouts are you in Hampshire?

Near southampton, the cars gone in with a mate to his garage he's gonna look at it and patch up the exhaust as best he can. He's gonna put a new tyre and sort a bulb out aswell, all were failures on the MOT.
Hopefully it'll come back sorted. I put some injector cleanerin it and filled it with optimax to see if that helps. Hopefully with the exhaust fixed and after a bit of a thrash it'l get through but we'll see lol
Thanks everyone
Matt

good news, it passed today.
My mate who's a mechanic looked at it and took it back for me.
The tyre wasn't under the legal limit ( no where near )
The exhaust only had a small hole in it
The emissions passed.

The MOT place must have been ripping me off the buggers.

Oh well all sorted only cost me a few quid for a new bulb and a bit of cash for my mate
