Hello there, it all depends on what spec you want to rebuild it to, if you use OE parts or pattern parts.

I've had full engne rebuild for £2k, but I've also had a bottom end rebuild on it's own for £3 as it was for a full on rally car.

If you're fixing it just to sell on, it might be cheaper to sell the car with the fault (but cearly advertise that fact) rather than do the rebuild.

The cheapest I've heard for a bottomr rebuild was £1200 at MODIFIED MOTORS in Clacton.

Before you give it to anyone, check out their record with Subarus!

This WILL be an expensive job, so its not worth going for the cheapest quote only for the car to blow up again 1000 miles later.

Get the job done right first time, pay once!

I'd be speaking to David at API!

I have just been told this may not be the big ends, as the knocking is intermittent and pretty quiet also the pulley wheel seems to be wobbling could this just need tightening? please say yes

Mitch, It could be just the pulley come loose but it usually wrecks the crank when it happens. You can try to tighten it up and PROVIDING you get it in the right position will not cause a further problem. If however you tighten it up out of position its balance will be wrong and do more damage in the longer term.

Good Luck call me if I can help you in any way. Maybe buying a non damaged pulley and fitting that will get it mostly sorted.
