Default EcuTek3 - Dual maps?

Having read something in a different thread I'm posting to get confirmation of details about this.
The chap that mentioned it said he's got a dual switchable map and launch control on his Tek3'd STi9.
Now, as I'm about 2 weeks away from getting my lowly 03 wrx remapped I'd like to get the best for it.
Whether this new featured Tek3 map is available for the WRX is another question.
Could any of the expert mappers shed any light on this?

Cheers
Matt

You can have switchable boost maps but not launch control on your WRX.

Default ECUTEK

Yeah I dident think there was Launch Control with ECUTEK unless its new out. Maybe the guy you where talking to was on about gear dependant boost control rather then launch control, Which is on the newage Denso ECU's.

Ahh I could see why the wrx couldn't have the launch control cause it doesn't have the adjustable limiter that the STi has.

As far as I knew you couldent have two full maps just a low and high boost setting which is part of the standard map.

How would you switch between them - would you need a laptop with some software like digital dash etc - or are they not full user switchable maps ?

Yeah I reckon you would need a laptop for two complete switchable maps. It can be set up that you press the rear window demist button while doing something else at same time to change from low boost to high boost setting.

I've wondered about this then decided I'd only ever use the high boost map so there was no point.

what it says on EcuTek site

Switching Maps
EcuTek Map Switching allows dynamic selection of two sets of performance levels. To switch between these performance levels, the driver simply holds full throttle and toggles the rear heated window switch from off to on. This may be done with the engine off or on, so long as the ignition switch is on. The performance levels may also be switched from DeltaDash using the User Tuning feature.

How it Works
EcuTek have customised the function of the software in the ECU to allow dynamic switching between two sets of performance maps. Selection of the performance level via the car dashboard or DeltaDash determines a choice between two sets of boost control configurations within the ECU. One setting might be for a constant 0.5 bar (7 PSI) whilst the other might be 1.2 bar (17.5 PSI), tapering to 1 bar at the redline.

Applications
The two performance levels may be specified by you to your chosen EcuTek tuning partner. You may choose to have one performance level for road use and on for drag racing. Alternatively, you may choose to have a high performance and an economy mode.

How to get it
To use map switching on your WRX, your ECU must be reprogrammed with a special map switching ECU calibration. If you have already had your ECU reprogrammed by an EcuTek tuning partner, contact them for an upgrade. If you are a new customer, simply choose an EcuTek partner from the dealer list and specify that you would like the map switching feature when your ECU is tuned.

Map switching and user tuning software & technology is Copyright © EcuTek International Ltd 2002 and is only available from EcuTek partners, as listed here.

Yeah but say if you droped it in somewhere to get work done or vallet or something you could have it set at 0.5bar so they couldent take it for a rip or if it it gets nicked during the night and they cant go above .5bar that could be handy and they may just dump it.

The usual method to toggle between the two maps is full throttle while pressing the rear screen demister LOL

Or the 'other half' decides to pop the demister on for you just as you're happily coming off a roundabout in slow-mode lol. weeeeeee.

Good idea tho. I might try an upgrade when I get my next map done and have economy and thirsty modes.

I have Launch Control on my 53 plate sti. Never knew I had it nor will I probably use it but Bob found that it had been added when he remapped my car last month and I decided to leave it on.

Running 0.7 on low boost and 1.4 on high via the demist switch...........

I've never heard of this before. Is it available on all new age cars?

Not too sure Davey. I'm assuming it must be available though. It was added by Richard Bulmer when the the previous owner had the 333 map done.

Doesn't really appeal to me if I'm honest but might as well leave it on there just in case.

mmmmm really tempted to give mine a shot now but was told that the standard clutch would only take four of five "launches". Puts me off slightly along with the fact that I'd get it all hopelessly wrong and provide great amusement

The duel map roms are available for Euro WRX and Sti and JDM Sti, all allow switchable boost, if you have delta dash or the EcuTek data display then you can adjust loads of other stuff as well but there are no other duel maps, launch control is an added feature BUT it can only be set up when reflashing so be wary as if its set incorrectly it could well break clutch/gearbox.

Megarom is also available for JDM Sti's which give true map switching as opposed to just two boost levels, requires a huge amount of work when mapping due to the large number of maps involved (20 boost control maps alone). However it does work well !! Not sure who else is prepared to use this.

cheers

Bob, is there an additional cost involved with the Megarom mapping?

For the vauxhall RMA Sorry mate couldn't resist.

Looking at the length of time Bob took to remap my car I can only assume "Megarom" would be more expensive to initiate.
