Default Difference between a 98 and a 99 MAF

I'm just thinking of changing my old MAF to try and iron out some idling problems, and the MY98 part is very expensive from Subaru - not in the 'might as well' price range like later MAFs were. What would be the effect of substituting a later 99 MAF in for the 98 one I've got? The part I've found looks to be just the actual innards, not the whole cylindrical struture.

Any advice?

Done a bit of homework and the later ones are cheapo because they are just a long weird shaped probe kind of thing. The pre-98 ones are the whole tube and the device inside, so you're paying an extra £200 for the plastic tube and the innards don't come separate, even though it looks like you could dismantle it.

The sensors are completely different (hot Film on the MY99 vs hot wire on the MY98) and, unless you can reprogram the MAF scaling in your ECU, incompatible.

If you can rescale the MAF then you still don't want to use a MY99 unit, use a suitable Nissan MAF instead!

I did think of using a Z32 MAF in there instead, but will probably combine that with my next visit to Zen for a tweak of the Power FC.
