Depends! You will have to try it and see.
As you can imagine there are varying opinions on here as to it being good or not.
My car is mapped to V Power and so i shall stick with that.
But for me, there is not a Tesco with 99 RON for far too many miles anyways.

The nearest garage to me that sells it is 20 miles away(40 mile round trip),and i personally will not use anything else in any of my cars.
The modded Leon Cupra R i had was noticeably better when i ran that on it,and since buying my Scoob,it has never had anything but.

V-Power and Optimax before is refined at 99 RON.
I think Tesco 99 is normal unleaded with an octane boosted added, it is definately not refined as a 99 RON fuel.
Banzai mag, ran a rolling road test last year.
1st Shell Optimax (now V-power)
2nd BP Ultimate
3rd Tesco 99
4th Normal Unleaded
The difference in power between them all was suprisingly large.

What's the point of discussing Optimax which doesn't even exist? Might as well talk about 4-star!
Anyway, I had my 98 WRX mapped on Tesco 99 with a Power FC by Zen, switched to V-Power to see if it made any difference, and it runs just as well on both. It's now just a question of which is nearer/cheaper when I need it. Tesco is usually a lot less money and has the right octane. I put in a tank of V-Power occasionally, for old times sake - I ran my old turbocharged Clio on Optimax and it never missed a beat. Until I blew the engine up on nitrous, but that's another story.

I,ve got a bugeye WRX and when i tried tesco my car was noticably slower but on a positive note it popped and banged a hell of a lot more. The only thing you can do is give it a try and see how your scoob reacts to it, i,ve heard people saying there car runs better on it and also people sayin the same as me. I run mine on V-POWER and its much better in my opinion

I have a 93 WRX running around 285bhp. I usually fill up with tesco 99, never misses a beat, smooth power delivery and as good economy as I have ever managed from the scoob. I tried V-power for 2 tanks amid outlandish reports that people were getting an extra 40 miles per tank from it, I actually averaged 5 miles per tank more from tesco 99 than V-power. Tesco 99 is equally as good as shell V-power in my opinion.
Re it not being refined to 99RON, thats partially true but the octane increase does not come from the use of octane boosters but from the fact that its a 5% blend with ethanol which raises the octane level, This is an added incentive to use it as it means 5% less of my money is going to pay for oil nations to carry on holding a monopoly on our fuel:
Greenergy's 99 Octane Super Unleaded petrol

Didn't actually realise that optimax was out and V power had took over but we all know what I was talking about.
Thanks for the replies I will give tesco 99 a go.

had a recent remap with tesco 99 as fuel, can't tell a difference with between V power and tesco -
lets stop blaming the quality of fuels - just keep away from 95 -97 RON
