full decat and ecu good idea?
im just about to pay for a my99 scooby, my first 1, and its got a full decat and ecu remapped, is there anything i should look for when buying the car, also ive heard that it might damage the car if the decat is done and remap done a while after any help would be great and also any info and things to look for when i view the car would help, its a my99 v reg 2000 turbo cheers.

From my experience with a MY00 with full de-cat is that it wont damage the car without having a remap, as the ECU will adjust itself automatically.
Ive done 30k in 2 years without any problems. (Just a new MAF and front diff seals replaced).
Look out for all the usual stuff, take for a test drive when hot and cold listen for engine knocks), smoke, oil leaks, all panels lined up true, let it run at idle for a good amount of time, make sure the temp gauge stays around half way.

not sure about the my99 but i was told if you perform a complete decat then the car will not pass emisions test on its mot and either the front or centre cat needs to be on for this reason. looked into it for my 96 uk spec and only chopped the centre cat leaving the front cat in place and passed mot on emissions.
im no expert but just what i was informed.

My car has just passed it's MOT. It's a MY2000 classic that's standard apart from a FULL sports system ( from turbo back ). MOT man said he's seen quite a few that are all OK but suggests give the car a good hard drive just before hand.
