Default does a bigger scoop help with intake temps?

as above, im toying with the idea of putting an sti8 sccop on my 98uk turbo wagon. keeping the standard topmount for now with views to get a bigger one. question is does the bigger scoop help with keeping the temps down, especially at higher speeds when the small scoop become unefficient?

i like the look of the bigger scoop too

cheers

I'm not sure if it would improve it that much, equally I wasn't aware that the standard scoop was that inefficient at high speeds, I did some testing last year when I was thinking of going with a FMIC and took temp readings from the turbo outlet and IC outlet and was surprised just how effective the standard UK IC was, we did the same test on a friends who had just spent £250 on a STI TMIC and they was negligible improvement, he was gutted!

If the car was standard then there probably wouldn't be much difference to be seen.

However, start wacking increased airflow through the engine with decats, manifolds, uprated turbos and the like, the intercooler is going to have to cool a lot more air than standard, this is when a larger intercooler is going to be needed.

They only look good for a few weeks. You'll then want a FMIC so you can get rid of the scoop. Trust me, I've been there

i have read many times on here that the standard top scoop is anygood above 120ish, coz the air going in the scoop stops more air and pushes over the top, its had to describe with out pictures.
