can MAF sensors be interchangeable between version to version

Pre 99 different to MY99 and MY00 not sure of the rest

They don't physically fit, different design, different electronic setup.

Physical fit and different design can be overcome. But, what the differents in the electronic setup.

Are they a different voltage, resistance?

Another question ,if anyone can help- can a 96 maf sensor be put on a 95 ?

Output voltage depends on the airflow across the sensor, this is not linear, so if you were to fit the MAF in a larger tube output voltage will drop, these devices work, by the element being cooled by airflow, which produces a change in voltage, 50 Mv change could see the engine not running on the correct part of the ECU Map.

They are designed to work in the correct tube diameter, so everything interacts with each other, if you flow too much air you can max them out, and then you are into re-scaling.

I think the MY99 MAF works from 0-5 volt with it's ref voltage being 5 volts.
