That's something i never thought about I do get a misfire though, sometimes the bouncing around will happen at 6k indicated, What is the standard rev limit for UK?

Do you get misfire with rev limiter?

Yes, on all four cylinders!

Hitting the rev limiter you will experiance a complete drop off in power, may well throw you forward in your seat.

Your engine does sound fine, and you do have a problem with your rev counter.

I know how a rev limiter works was just being stupid and grasping at straws, it's a definate misfire not only can you feel it but you can hear it through the downpipes.

Anyway i have found the source of the problem, it's the Alternator .

I disconnected it completely and took the car for a spin, now revs clean to the red line and beyond it slightly to the 'proper' rev limiter, no misfire, no hesitation and rev needle solid. Thoughts are a knacked alternator that is putting so much noise/spiking out that it's messing up the cam, crank and ecu signals or that the alternator case earthing is bad and emmitted noise from the alternator body is affecting the crank signal.

Going to clean up the mounts tonight and try, will keep you informed.
