You say you lift your foot up then it's fine, is it fine on full throttle or just driving normal?

Could be a wire or connection problem, either loosing contact due to engine twist or accell forces or shorting out, does it do it when driving lightly?

I would check a connector first, shouldn't take you too long, just under the forward edge of the intercooler right in the middle of the engine is a grey connector. Make sure this is together and locked, cam/crank sensor wiring goes through here, one side is fixed to the engine and the other comes through the bulkhead, if the engine tilt is causing this to break connection then you will loose rpm info and hence gauge and ignition.

try earthing the block to the neg bat terminal just to eliminate an earthing problem.

Hi, my first post and had to reply to your question brcause I had the exact same problem with my '93 WRX - 'Ignition cut and rev counter drops under acceleration'. Started off intermittant and got worse and worse.

Caused by faulty/incorrect spark plugs. Fitted new ones - perfect!!
Hope this helps, cheers - Mark.
