Wheres cheapest place to get 6spd box conversion done?
Hi, Im trying to find out which places are the cheapest to supply and fit a 6 speed box into a 1999 impreza.
A PPG box is too expensive for me so a 6 spd is the only option Ive beed given at this moment.
Any Ideas of companies to try and how much they would charge?
Cheers

2nd recommendations for API. Not the cheapest but good value for money in the long run. Other problem is that due to the reputation can cause a delay in getting work done.

We are damn fine I'll have you know.
but if all you're after is a box fitting it's not too difficult. A UK 6 speed can be fitted with your existing rear diff and the 6 spd prop. A JDM 6 speed will need a change of CWP in the rear diff. You can't just put the matching rear diff in as it's an R180 as apposed to an R160, but you can combine it with v4-6 Type R or RA rear hubs and shafts for the "full monty" as it were. The newage hubs, links and shafts give the wrong camber and increased rear track, which can be problematic depending on tyres. Camber can be fixed with camber bolts on the rear though, so you can use new age rear hubs with classic links and classic R180 shafts.
Plenty of breakers have 6speeds, some will have trouble supplying a UK one though.

JDM & UK 6 speed boxes and fitting kits [ props / selectors / rear diffs as necessary ] in stock at APi.
It is a popular conversion and we have sold over 30 in the last 2 years.
Paul is correct, a Uk 6 speed will go straight into your car with no need for a diff swap.
Good luck - no matter what

PPG is noisy but standard 5th fitted for quietness on the motorway... very strong kit. Believe the 6-speeds are effectively the same as 5-speeds but heat treated for extra strength. You only need to look at the PPG sycnros compared with the OEM stuff to see the difference - virtually indestructable and most with big power go down this route in the end.

They are very good kits, and will cover most peoples requirements.
