no boost problem.
Just been out in the car - did about 15 miles and I had no boost whatsoever...
When I got home I lifted the bonnet and the engine bay seems to be very hot for such a short journey.
I dont think this is related but over the wkkend I gave my air filter the once over to see if it was caked up, seeing as it was a topic of conversation at the meet, so I was hoping it was something simple like an air intake hose not connected properly or I'd not reconnected the MAF.
Any suggestions? I hope to God it's not a blown turbo. The car's been running fine, no warning signs, no CEL, no anything...
Help please.
Also - a lot of heat seems to be coming from the coolant hoses - fubar'd water pump perhaps?

Check that the actuator rod hasn't jumped off the wastegate on the turbo....if it has, you should just be able to pull the rod and fit it back over the arm on the wastegate....I'll grab a pic in a min.

If you remove the heatshield from the turbo, you should see something similar to the above.
A) is the Actuator
B) is the actuator rod which should be under tension
C) is the wastegate arm
The rod should be connected and secured to the wastegate arm with a clip. You will need to pull the rod to get it to meet the wastegate arm as it is slightly under tension. The wastegate arm is connected to the turbo and if the rod isn't attached, will be able to move freely back and forth. Under boost, the exhaust gasses will push the wastegate open and will then bypass the turbine blades so no boost will be produced. As you can see above, mine has popped off in the past and is now secured with a paper clip....I will get around to buying the right clip eventually

Cheers for the pic -I doubt I'd have had any idea what you were talking about otherwise! Can I see if this is the problem without removing the heatsheild? (its pouring down outside so any major tinkering will have to wait until tomorrow)
What happens when I accelerate is that the car will go as normal until it gets the point where the turbo will come in, then it just seems to judder a bit and I can here air gushing about. Strangely it seems to happen at different revs in different gears

A wild guess but I once forgot to reconnect the intercooler hose when I was tinkering with my P38 Range Rover Turbo Diesel (Bmw Engine).
The turbo spooled up but just blew air over the engine - not into the induction plenum.
It had no-go but you could hear the turbo blowing.
The turbo would also sometimes stick and it simply wouldn't blow - give it a few miles and it would kick back in.
Like I say - a shot in the dark but....

Is this likely to happen if the airbox is not refitted properly? I would have thought that if a pipe wasnt on right here it would just suck air in but bypass the filter...
Do you mean a split hose on the intercooler? Do I need to tell the wife I really really need to get me a set of Samco's?

Sorted thankfully - the jubilee clip on the hose in the IC had come loose. A quick spin up the road and all is now fine.
Thanks for the replies.
Wonder if I can still get those Samco's though...
