Default TYPE-R MAF FAULT?????

1997 TYPE-R STI
HKS FILTER
FULL DECAT

When i first had the car it seemed to overboost badly when the car got warm, after the cel deciding to show an error 23 (mass air flow sensor circuit) i stripped maf and it was full of water, changed for new one and reset ecu, car seemed to be ok maybe a little underboost. Five miles down the road and the car starts running like ****e and cel pops up... error 23 again????? but its a new maf fitted? could there be a wiring fault to the maf or are these sensor the fragile?
when i fitted the hks filter i made a bracket so it was solid and not bouncing about, just incase it damaged the maf.

any idea where to go from here? bought the maf off ebay, it was new but obviously doesnt come with a warrenty
i'm lost now dont know what to try next?

cheers

ahh hold on i thought disconnecting the battery overnight would reset the ecu, apparently not! would the previous maf fault that had been logged stay on until ecu was reset or would it clear when new maf fitted?

right now i'm getting somewhere, just did what was instructed to reset ecu, no flashes from cel so drove car for a few minutes then error 32 (oxygen sensor) started flashing. i did notice that this was disconnected, its like a 2 pin white plug that runs to sensor in exhaust. does this really matter? will it affect the car or just ignore it?
maf fault has gone tho so thats good
