Idle control valve ( help if poss )

Idle control valve ( help if poss )
I wonder if anyone can help,
ive had problems with my car after driving in some bad weather,
When the car starts it revs to over 3k, then rev's itself from 1k - 2k,
also when the cars running theres a knocking coming from the throttle butterfly,
ive tried cleaning the MAF ( 300zx ), tried adjusting the throttle position sensor, and tried cleaning the idle control valve,
my question is,
1. Does anyone know if there's a way to check the idle control valve?
2. Also if the ICV was stuck shut, would the build up of air push the butterfly open, causing the knocking?
3. would a failed ICV cause the car to rev this way
any help would be awsome, just wanna check before i go order a new one, these new from subaru can cost £270

how bad is the knocking do you have a clip? is it a BAD knock?
there is a clip (will find the link in a sec unless somebody beats me to it!)..
hope its not as bad as this, if it is then you are looking at a rebuild or new engine.

You mean this clip ... that's extreme failure of the big end bearings ... major rebuild!

The above problem sounds more like loose / lost air / vac hose, ICSV, or maybe broken throttle / TPS ?

No its deffo not big end bearings, its purely the throttle butterfly, ive took the TPS out and set it to 0.40v, the idle control valve does seem to move,
would it be possible to spray some sort of aerosol around boost pipes to check for leaks?

Try washing up liquid in water and squirt around POSITIVE pressure hoses, and pull / look at other air hoses - is ICSV air feed hose connected properly, other hoses around throttle,
Pop off the ICSV and clean with carb/injector cleaner spray in the bit that faces manifold, turning top spindle to do so. Care with the rubber bits and filter in manifold hole, remove and clean them too.

I found this topic with search function.
Basically i have the same problem ( car is classic v6 euro).
List of engine mods:
new age STI TMIC with Forge rec. valve
parallel fuel lines with Fuel lab FPR
vf 35
Silicon induction pipe
440s
Ecutek remap
3" SS exhaust with 100 cell cat
Magnacore 8mm leads
255 walbro
One weekend i cleaned IACV(and all inside throttle body that i could reach trough IACVs hole) and three port boost selenoid as i had some hesitation from 2-3k and i couldnt floor it in 5th and 6th.After i cleaned them i reset ECU and let it run for 20 min and turned it off.
The next day i drove for around 1 mile when i stopped at traffic light:Till this point all was normal but then CEL went on and car started to idle from 1-2k violently (whole car is actually shaking a bit). I drove home. Sometimes it was adding the gas by it self so i was just shifting upwards and when i clutched her she rewed straight to 3k. In between she ran normally no odd feelings untill i have to stop and she starts to idle really badly.
Clearly it seemed like busted IACV so i took it out and it was pressed all the way inside its body so i guess air was being passed trough bypass constantly. I swapped IACV with the other unit i had and i thought all was ok until i fired her up.Same storry, violent rev jumping and rewing to 3k.
I removed the other ICV as well and it was pushed all the way in as well.
I also checked all vacum silicone piping and all seems ok.
Is there anything else i can try? What is causing my IACVs to fully open?
Thanks for help

Code that i am getting is 24 but i suspect that circuit might be to blame. Could be the throttle position sensor as it would send wrong info and IAVC is following that?
Friend of mine reset ECU and we were getting CEL 24 even before starting her up and when we did start her up it looks like i would have some insane race cams:S
Any ideas?
