Unhappy Battery replacement and alarm codes

Hi

I did a search on this but didn't get a definitive answer.

I'm having trouble with my battery (i.e. its flat). I want it replacing, but I don't have my alarm/immobiliser codes as I didn't get them when I bought the car. I know I should have reset them to my own by now, but i havent....

Anyway, when I change the battery, will I require the PIN code to get the car started and working again? Hopefully not....

Cheers

Dave

What year? I changed the battery on my 03STi and didn't need the code. All that needed resetting was my radio channels and rev light setting.

You really do need the code if you have any trouble with your key fob or want to use the superlok feature. Perhaps a Subaru specialist will be able to reset the code for you.

Hi

I have a MY00 UK Turbo.

I have had problems with my key fob in the past. There are a series of numbers you can type in to reset the PIN code to one of your own choosing, if the car has been started and switched off again. Stupidly, I haven't done that yet. This is why it might be problematic if the battery is changed and resets everything, or if the key fob won't work.

I also have a JVC multi-changer CD unit and head - I don't have a code for that either. I'm hoping it won't need one as it has the removeable face unit.

Grrr...so many problems. I'm wondering whether it is worth buying a battery in town today and trying to change it myself tonight, or whether to call out Green Flag and get them to do the lot.

Dunno. Think you'll have to try it and hope. Difficult to see why your key fob should be a prob as the recognition must be held on some memory chip in the ECU that would keep its memory even without power. Otherwise there'd be a lot of stranded scoobies out there.

Just to update...

Got a Halford heavy duty calcium battery last night. Swapped it over and there were no problems at all, with either the alarm/immobilser or my stereo.

I went for a Halfords Calcium as well. Turns the engine over twice as fast as the OE battery (03STi) ever did even when new. OE battery is hopeless.

Glad you had no probs.

Cheers, Diccy.
