what engine for 550bhp and 500lbs torque
looking at doing a engine rebuild for the above power, i also want to use the car for the road with minimal lag , was looking at 2.2 2.33 and 2.5 engines ,
i would prefer the 2.5 engine for more torque and less lag , but can you build a 2.5 for this power with realiability .
cheers

yes but it aint cheap, and ANY engine of that size will have noticable lag for that power.....its par for the course, cant have one without the other im afraid
you would need to budget another 2.5k for a gearbox to cope with it, and no engine of this power level will be bulletproof in reliability terms, in my opinion, anything over about 450 should be a weekend only car. Way too powerful for the road.

i was going to fit the newage 6 speed box , and of course it will be laggy as it will need a big turbo on it , but i want to minimize it as much as possible ,hence why i wanted to go the 2.5 engine . i have my newage running at over 400bhp at the moment with a md321 turbo and aps fmic which is quite laggy 4000 rpm the boost kicks it and full at 4700rpm ish .

if you can live with that lag......then id suggest a very strong, built, thick linered, 2.5 and a GT35R running around 1.5 or 1.6bar, there was a 2.5 on here in yorkshire that was running 501 on a gt35 at about 1.3bar. So something around that would get you your figures....

that much i have £15000 to spend on the car but i had £6000 for the bodywork and handling , so my limit would be £9000 but can obviously stretch alittle bit more that, i may have to sourch some s/hand bits to get the price down abit , and what spec would you be talking about to achieve this power for £20000
cheers will check fiesta boys engine now

does anyone know if this engine would match up to a newage loom and dash with hydra ecu , as the new age have avcs (variable valve timing ) which works through the ecu if i remember right

I did my original 500hp car for much much less, but it was compromised in many ways. I'm not saying it can't be done for less, but if you want to just walk into a tuning shop and ask for a warrantied 500hp setup, be prepared to pay.

think i may have to lower my figures , as i want the job done right , maybe 475bhp and 450lbstorque , would this make much diffrence on the price .
zen
would fiestaboys engine match my newage loom and dash with hydra ecu as the heads have avcs which work through the ecu and the engine he has are ver 6 sti heads with no avcs .
cheers

I think perhaps you can lower your power aims, your reliability aims or the number of "toys" used in the build overall.
A 2.5 with rods and pistons should be okay at around 500hp, but for ultimate reliability I would sleeve the block, or go with a 2.35 build. Then there are the heads, which can cost from £500 to £2500 depending on how far you go. The clutch could be a AP organic 6 speed, or a twin plate. Decisions like these will have a big impact on the price.
at 450hp you could be in for as little as £10k I think. My £20k estimate including supply of complete engine, turbo, ecu, mapping. But you could easily spend as much as £35k if you really wanted to. You would be better off discussing it at length with a few vendors and see what they come up with to match your goals and budget.

i have a 400 bhp sti 7 with 350lbs torque , i have gradually thrown money away, going from 300bhp to 360bhp to 400bhp , so next i said it would be a big power car that would scare the s""t out of me .
i think 550bhp and 500 torque are out of the money league for me ,
so i,m, set on roughly 475bhp and 450lbs torque , using a 2.5 , or a 2.35, or 2.2 .
