Default Worried about MAF and engine failure??

HI,

i used to have a MY99 uk turbo and basically the MAF failed and the engine went!

Im now looking at getting another scoob and would really like another MY99/00 uk turbo. I have looked at a few and due to prices varying big time with regards to mileage im not sure which way to go higher and cheaper or low and more expensive.

if i look at a car with say 90k on the clock but has had full dealer service history inc big 90k cambelt service and all old mots and reciepts etc should i trust it and just change the MAF straight away and hope its ok?? could there be some underlying damage already been done to the engine without being able to tell??

just looking for some advice as im worried about another engine failure as there are so many seem to happen to 99/00 cars!

Personal opinion, to be on the safe side which ever you buy I'd change both MAF and lambda sensor for peace of mind.
