Does the cambelt die with age?
I have a MY00 turbo with 39,000km or 25,000miles and have owned it since new, six years now. I have been reading on cambelt change and have read that it needs changing at 60,000 clicks or 4/5 years. I can understand the bit where once you've reached the miles it should be changed. I cant understand the age bit.
Why should it be changed at 4 years if you havent done the miles? How does it wear out if the car is sitting there when the cambelt does not see the weather like tyres do to dry up?

I wont be chancing it. The car doesnt do many clicks. If the gurus can convince me that it needs changing, the next time the car gets driven will be to change the belt.

your risk mate, the rubber will break down and start to harden and crack, then it will snap and engine will go bang.
but as said your choice to risk it or not, you may get away with it or it may go bang.
