Default Esso Supreme

ok, this doesn't have to turn into a mighty debate, just a quick simple question

I was low on petrol and there was no shell optimax anywhere near by, so I thought , after that I thought I'll have to go to the ESSO garage and get the super unleaded supreme, which we all know by now is 97 ron. But I found my car was more responsive than the usual 98 ron optimax, and according to the search so does a lot of you scooby owners.

I have a 1994 WRX IMPORT, and as far as I know it hasn't been remaped before, so it should be taking 100 ron.

But how can ESSO SUPREME 97 Ron feel more responsive than OPTIMAX 98 RON? and will it hurt using SUPREME regulary?

When I had my original ecu on my 92wrx I prefered the feel of esso supreme over any other fuel. I used to use this with no problems whatsoever with det etc (also used to use normal supermarket fuel as well to no ill effect)
I like you also found the car to be more lively. Think it is just one of those things to be honest.

Cool

I'm no fuel expert guys but I'm pretty sure that 100ron didnt really become freely avaliable in Japan till 96 or later so its unlikely the car was originally mapped for 100ron, even though everyone says all Jap imports should be run on the best fuel you can get ( & throw the 100ron thing about ) which is kinda true of any car really........

97ron, 98ron, even non super ( at a push ) is unlikely to do any serious damage ( I've used it all on a bog standard 95 WRX import which has had its share of abuse ) if your doing a trackday non super is probably a bad idea though cause sustained high speeds & loads on rubbish fuel is a v.v.bad idea & will probably cause det. which will eventually kill your engine.

Basically use whatever you want if you cruise about at "normal" speeds unleaded should be ok but if you like to put your foot down go for the best you can get at the time.

dont worry just enjoy it

I use Esso all the time, Car runs fine and each tank seems consistent from fill to fill. Unlike Opti which seems to vary not only from tank to tank but with time.

BTW Car's running Apexi-PFC and 1.35bar and no det

And it's a lot bloody cheaper than Shell fuel.

i dont use optimax because when i had my escort cos i had used to use it regularly until some one who was up on different fuels and performance engines told me that optimax is only norm unleaded with additives added and after a few days the octane rating begins to drop back towards 95 (not a prob in a scoob as a tank can be gone in a day! BUT HOW LONG HAD IT BEEN SAT IN THE TANKS ON THE GARAGE??????????)
