400bhp with aps cak not running right
what can i use to replace the aps induction kit on my car , due to the maf being fitted on the 2.5 inch angle of the aps unit it was,nt giving enough reading as was needed so a 3 " maf tube was fitted where the maf pipe is after the turbo , the car is fluttering at steady revs in 3rd 4th 5th and 6th gear and sometimes the car overboosts and hits a brick wall.
obviously i,m taking the car back to who did it, but was hoping for a bit of info

There must be a way around this without changing the induction kit. Plenty of MAF based cars use the APS CAIK. Stick with it mate as it's highly rated in certain circles.

Would be interesting to hear Andys F's and Bob R's view on this for similar powered cars using these Caiks as we both have!
Also id like to hear from people what figures they are acheiving from these units as the majority of induction kits on cars +400HP appear to be the larger engine bay cone type with cold air chamber?

The APS CAK, on classic cars anyway, can cause engine failure unless the ECU is reprogrammed to take account of the different MAF signals that result from fitting the kit. If you have not reprogrammed your ECU, I suggest running off boost until it has been, or you remove the CAK.
They basically modify the voltage from the MAF sensor, making ECU think there is less airflow than there really is - this leads to too little fuel and too much timing.
Not sure if problem exists on new age cars too though.

the car has only just come back from being mapped from a well known mapper , and the maf sensor had to be moved due to not getting good enough readings from the aps unit to a 3" pipe where the maf pipe is
does anyone have any ideas on a replacement induction kit
and is anyone running over the 400bhp mark with this unit on

I have to agree with Bob on this. I have been using an APS cold air kit for two years now and its a fantastic bit of kit. I have however changed the K&N filter on it to a fine steel mesh type though and this appears to flow alot more air. The MAF is now 30K miles old and has never been replaced or ever been moved.
I have also heard that the MAF housing is of a specific size if you move up to a bigger housing you screw up the airflow calculations that the ECU makes, unless of course you have worked this extra housing volume into the equation. I would suggest you put the maf back in its original housing, in its original location and look at the mapping once more.

A 3 " pipe is smaller than std which is 80 mm (3" is 75mm), it would appear they did that to e=increase air velkocity.
If the maf was rescaled accordingly there is no need for that.
The APS CAK has its limits and I wouldn't use on a car trying to run much over 400 bhp, I disagree with all the "fantastic bit of kit" hype, it does a good job correctly mapped for up to that level. Used one myself a few years ago, car was far better without it.
I also didn't agree with the way the test results were achieved when John did that.
Doesn't sound like the CAK is the problem as described though so probably the wrong thing to focus on.

i had a fault where the engine light was coming on in the morning on just tick over while getting the engine warm . i swapped the maf which cured the fault for 2 weeks and then the fault came back .
