Turbo wrap - is it a good idea?
Is it worth fitting turbo wrap on big turbos? Does the wrap have a tendancy to store too much heat in the exhaust housing?

Lagging the headers, turbo etc. firstly, keeps under bonnet temperatures down, secondly, keeps exhaust temperatures higher, hotter gasses travel faster. Idea is too keep inlet temperatures as low as possible and exhaust gasses as hot as possible for optimum performance (Carnot's cycle). The faster you can get 'rid' of exhaust gasses, the better........

I've already done lagging over everything including headers and up/down pipes etc, plus reflective heat wraps on inlet pipes and FMIC pipes to repel heat.
My question was more the turbo itself really, ie would having turbo rap cause any damage long term to its life when you really push it, ie when turbo at crazy temps (glowing orange)?
What's your thoughts?

Would think it'd be better to use the jacket to allow cooling slower over a turbo without a jacket which would cool faster. There'd be less stress on the housing etc. with slower cooling temps.
I'm sure other people have different views......

Using a Turbo blanket is a good idea, as has been aleady said hot gasses flow quicker that cold, like fluids do.
You should get quicker spool, reduced under bonnet temps also.
Just make sure you only wrap the exhaust side though !!

lol rob...I've been thinking of ways to spray mist over the compressor side, but then thought it was one of those no brainer ideas.
Okay guys, wrap "exhaust side" coming up, and hope to flow air from bonnet scoop to inlet side...might help a little!!?

Is "Harvey" the chap that's got everything under the engine covered in wrap? I've heard of the inlet manifold being done etc, but I dont think I'd go that far as I like the red, makes engine bay look better.
Think I'll just stick to protecting the pipes that are nearest to heat sources and the water injection/water spray pipes, keep all them cool.
