Default painting a fmic

what can i use to paint a FMIC so it is black ??? dont want to spoil the core by painting it in the wrong stuff !!!

I painted mine in black along with the protective mesh in front of it. I used some matte black Plasti-kote enamel spray from Halfords which did the trick:

theotherphil, how did you prepare the fmic? and did you paint it in situ?

I used some matte black Plasti-kote enamel spray from Halfords which did the trick
and this stuff works great and doesnt affect any of the intercooler ????

If you could do it would be better to get it anodised black so it doesn't have a thick paint layer over the metal.

Probably cost a LOT though to get something so big anodised!

im glad somebody has asked about intercooler painting as im thinking about doin mine, but wouldnt mind spraying something on the intercooler like the "sti" intercoolers have

I didn't prepare the I/C in any way other than making sure it was clean. I then masked off the bumper and sprayed a fine coat accross the mesh and the I/C core. It didn't take a lot....just enough to colour. TBH, there's a thicker layer of grey paint on it as standard than what I added with the black! If it has affected performance, it isn't noticable....it still cracks 100 in under 10s

have you meshed your vent yet phil?

Haha, nope....never did get around to doing that I've not found any small animals in there yet either

As above,

I just used some satin black spray direct onto the intercooler and then lacquer. After fitting the mesh did exactly the same.

Occasionally needs touching up, just mask around the bumper and then give a quick spray.
