Default clutch replacement...

hi guys. im thinking of replacing my clutch as mine has been slipping sometimes when giving her some beans. ive found replacements from a reputable source (www.camskill.co.uk) inc standard ones or uprated ones.

£325 for an organic fast road one (uprated performance)

£175 for a standard replacement

two questions guys...

1...which one do i choose???? &

2...any ideas on the cost of taking the old one out and fitting the new from a decent garage??

any experiences... its a 95 wrx with a 93 drivetrain i believe. the transmission number is EF TY752VB3AA...

CHEERS.

Hi,it depends what power your running. If it's standard, and your going to keep it that way, then theres no point putting in an uprated one.
If your running more power, or will be in the future then you'll kick yourself later for not putting in the uprated one in now.
It will cost around £150-£200 for labor.

Is it worth taking it to a garage to get it changed? I heard that it can be a bit of a bitch to change dropping the gearbox and is easier to move the engine

I've done it both ways on my scoob,if i was to do it again i'd probably drop the box out,you will need to jack the car quite high with a high lift jack or crane. It'll help if theres two of you to get the box back on.
If you do it yourself then make sure you align the clutch properly, they have to be spot on!
If money's not a problem, let a garage do it,you'll have the car back same day,and keep the skin on your knuckles!

cheers guys... il see how goes regarding any more slip as i knew when buying her she may have needed a little tlc. also i have a idea off costs for labour too, thankyou again, one garage said £600 "its a scoob mate specialist weekend jobby - not inc vat!!!" - i nearly **** myself.

il look around for a decent replacement and a decent garage and see whats happens. never thought of ebay...k.o.t. arent they supposed to be **** for things like that. many members on here have bad things to say - me not being on of them mind...

I bought an Exedy STi clutch off Ebay, and had it fitted by my local garage.

Cost me £415 all in. Think the labour was £200, and the clutch kit £215 delivered.

Just found the very same clutch on ebay from the same bloke:

On the advert it says for any Impreza after 92?

Not sure - When I was looking for mine I noticed some 225mm ones for sale. Mine is a later classic so 230mm.

If they say it will fit any Impreza post '92 then it should be ok?

Did a bit of searching for you, it appears that your standard clutch is 225mm.

However, you can fit the 230mm if you have the flywheel skimmed. Most places recommend doing this anyway.

Didn't have mine skimmed, wish I did as I do suffer from a bit of judder.

ah so as mine is a early preface lift one 93-94 im thinking i would need the 225mm one. but if i get the 230 it shouldnt do any harm.

by getting the flywheel skimmed, what do you mean?? im a little lost on this.

You'll have to ask someone else exactly what this means technically.

All I know is that it'll cost about £50, not all places would be able to do it but everyone recommends that it is done when changing the clutch!

I did find a post earlier that mentioned it is not entirely necessary, unless the flywheel is a bit nackered but apparently a lot of 'clutch judder' is a fault of the flywheel not the actual clutch itself.

When I bought my car, clutch juddered and the biting point was very high up, so I guessed the clutch was on its way out. As I was about to remap, thought I'd better change the clutch. Clutch was on its last legs as it turned out.

Changed the clutch, much better all round but still some judder and not only when cold (which a lot of Imprezas get). Therefore, wish I'd had it skimmed.

It means getting the clutch face re surfaced, which is a good idea,as you get hot spots.
Got mine done when my clutch gave out, cost £30 + vat.
Just a pic of mine when it all went wrong!

And this was an exeedy uprated one!
