Default help for newbie please

alright every one, newbie here so be gentle.
i bought a 98 uk turbo wagon and after some reading on the site i think my maf is going because under light throttle i have a bit of hesitation, but when i put the foot down it seems fine.
the car is standard apart from a tilt and splitter kit for intercooler and aftermarket back box.
the local dealer says it will be £257 plus vat for the meter and housing also the one in paerth said the same but another in aberdeen says i can buy just the sensor for £85 all in, one states it must be the complete unit and the other says i can fit the sensor myself. i need help please what one do i need.
ps the car idles fine.

cheers scotty
