Default Fin damage on TMIC

I have just had a good look at the Std TMIC on my UK MY99 and approx 70% of the fins are either distorted or flat.
How much of a reduction in function will this cause my TMIC

How quick would you suggest i get a new one before it causes me problems?

The car seems to run fine (i live in Germany at the mo so lots of quite high speed driving ) apart from it sometimes (worse when cold) seems to hesitate/missfire/judder under load at about 2.7-3k in first and second, it dosen't do it any other gear.

use a cocktail stick to straighten them.

the hessitation maybe the emissions fix within the standard ecu to pass the drive by noise emissions test.

Cocktail stick and patience is what you need.

I found it a lot easier to use a feeler gauge, you can do a lot neater job.

one of the type that tapers down to a round end, about 0.25mm thick so its a little bendy as not as harsh as a cocktail stick.

used a cocktail stick in the end

It took about an hour and a half i think in the end so not as bad as i first thought, what does concern me slightly though is that half of the distorted fins are now broken fins and had to be picked and in many cases peeled off, i'm guessing that it wont make too much difference

Scooby commandment no.3 : Intercoolers are not tool trays.

Now you need to find the person responsible for bending them and prod his eyes with the same tooth pic

LOL but it's such a handy place to leave your spanners when you're working in the engine bay!

On a more serious note though, the charge air goes through the tubes that run vertically which are much stronger than the fins between them. If a few of the top layer of fins have broken off it's not the end of the world. Better than having them all laying flat and blocking the rest of the fins off.
