Default "watery noise"

Hi all,

i'm getting a strange 'watery' noise coming from somewhere around the passenger side footwell.
I only happens when the engine is revving between 1000 and 2500. It sort of sounds like water squirting through pipes.
The car seems to be driving OK, and other than the wierd noise there is no obvious problem.
I've had a look round the engine bay, but to be honest, i'm not the most mechanically minded.

Can anyone advise what this might be?

Check you power steering fluid level for a start, needs to be done whilst running from memory.
Are you sure it is a water/fluid type sound and not a hig pitched rattle?, i would hazzard a guess at turbo heatshield cracked and vibrating but just a guess

check your coolant level.. sounds like the coolant is low and you have an air lock in the heater matrix.. perhaps..

I'm sure it's definitely a watery type noise. The first few times i heard it, it was pouring rain and i thought that i had just run through a puddle or something while parking.
The car has recently had a service is it worth getting the place that serviced it to check it out?

In the mean time, i'll check the coolant etc.
If there is an air lock in the coolant system, how do i get it out?

Alright Mate,

I notice this exact noise from time to time, usually if i'm sitting at a junction waiting to go and just as i accelerate between similar revs... remember hearing it on my last car as well....

Its intermittent for me and TBH i just ignore it, car is fine, temp is always fine so don't think there is an airlock....

Maybe i'm blissfully ignorant........

Yeah, as i said, the car seems to be running sweetly, temp is fine, everything is A-OK.
It's just that the car didn;t make this noise up until recently. In fact it may have started just after it was serviced.

I get it too (MY01 WRX). It worried me to start with but it's had it's 30k and 40k services since I bought it so now I ignore it too.

IIRC the heater matrix is the highest point in the coolant system, so if the levels a bit low any air will end up there, resulting in the swirly watery sound. I used to get this occassionally, but never had it happen when the coolant's topped right up.

I checked my coolant after reading this post earlier (and after realising that the reservoir is supposed to be 2/3 empty!! ) found that it's about 2cm's below the FULL line. I assume this means it's fine.

I'll have a look at the coolant level later on today.
The general consensus is that this is not something to worry about, is that right?

Just a thought; The boost solenoid can make some odd noises in the cabin at low revs as the little rubber dampeners wear out. A ticking noise that sounds almost like like water trickeling.

Ah thats real ticking. There is a little rad thing for the heaters inside car. Its the water flowing through that. Normal in all subarus. Nothing to worry about!!

I'd have to disagree, the heater matrix shouldnt really be making a noise under normal conditions as there should be no air in the system.

My legacy did this all the time, until i bled the cooling system of air. It caused no problems but it just got annoying thats all.
