It is to stop the oli flow/oil pick-up being inturrupted uinder heavy cornering/breaking/accelleration. the baffles stop the oil moving about so much and keep the oil pick-up submerged in oil.

Cannot see any disadvantages to it, not usual fitting to stock roadcars, more for high performanace track/rally/race cars.

Depends if you drive hard enough to warrant the need for one. Extra BHP will need more oil capacity (increases cooling capacity), Higher sustained revs need better windage tray designs. Higher cornering/braking G- forces need better sump baffling and pickup design.

I'm more of a dry sump man myself - if the option is available, as it addresses all this in one go Nothing much about for scoobies though.

there aren't any more it's a no lose!

You really really really don't want the pickup to grab a shedload of air at 7500rpm...

I think API do an exchange for £120.

Might we worth doing a search because a while ago a thread covered how to DIY, if you are happy welding

Are the sumps baffled anyway??? Is this one of the reasons why so many Impreza engines seem to fail???

There are many reasons why scoob engines fail. The main one is usage and conditions.
