Default overheating help needed please…:(

Hi,

I've just drove 3 miles to get some go-go juice and whilst on the forecourt I noticed that the speedo cluster temp gauge was near the red.!!

other parameters are;

water temp gauge on auxiliary gauges was between 78-82 deg (sensor fixed to top rad hose)
oil pressure at idle was 2.8 bar
plenty of hot air through the vents when at travel but went coldish at standstill at lights and the speedo cluster temp gauge started rising again.!

oil on dipstick looked fine and coolant in radiator header tank looked fine (watery and green)

any ideas please.? sticking thermostat or head gasket about to go ??

many thanks in advance,

Dave

Air lock is possible but I'd be looking at the water pump myself. Take cap off expansion tank, check level, start engine and see if you can see the water moving in the header tank.

can it just randomly do that though? (airlock)

due to a FMIC i have no room for the expansion tank so the pipe just runs off !

will do, was thinking of getting it replaced just as a precaution.

The temperature needle didn't quite hit the red but you never know.!
