Default Eeek... Oil leak Alert :o)

Lots of smoke from the engine that rises out of the bonet - Ron removed the cam belt cover and that was ok... it appears to be dripping from underneath landing on the sump... any idea where it's coming from and does it sound serious? There is also a funny sound coming from the engine as soon as I turn her over - like a grating rattling sound but it's not the auxillary belts as they are brand new and tight etc. Ron says heat shield cover.

Anyway, off to Triton tomorrow by the looks of it... just wondered if this is gonna be another 350+ expenditure?

coincidence of new noise and oil/smoke IMO would suggest sumthing other then a heatshield

unless the oil leak and heatshield went at the same time (unlikley?)

Right, the gorgeous lads at Triton laid on their backs for me, slid under the car and diagnosed a crank seal had blown.

Hope it's not expensive

Karen,
I would question that.... purely because i looked at the cambelt last night and it was bone dry..... thats really why i looked at the belt.. but anyway, they had a better look than I did, so they're word sticks...... probably bought about due to the crank pulley nut being loose, which is what i tightened last night!
Still, at least it ain't gonna be terminal which is what i thought the rattle was to start with... didn't wanna let on though!

Ron.

Oil seal just ready to pop
Cambelt tensioner seized - had to weld on two metal rods to pull it off
Crankshaft Pulley - cracked with a chunk falled off from the outside rim

550.00 (I had a service too so part of that cost was for that)

They showed me all the broken parts and they were fukced

She feels like a new car now - really tight. The loan car was crap - when I arrived he asked how I got there so quick, fly? I laughed and said, what - in that? We both chuckled. I said it's only redeeming feature was the radio 'station'

Still, I was more than grateful - they fitted me in after a brief phonecall at 7.15am and I had her back by 5pm. Not many garages are that attentive - they had a car park full too so I hope I didn't step in front of too many customers... anyway, it was a medical emergency

Blimey Karen.... i didn't realise they were at your beckon call.....just as well i didn't pull it apart..... i wouldn't have had the bits for sure!!!

I take it the rattle that was still there last night was the tensioner then??

Glad it's sorted..!!

Yes, it must have been... there was a big chunk missing from the rim so that was probably rattling around in there somewhere I'm glad it's sorted too... although I now have to go sell my body to recouperate my losses LOL.
