Default Here's a Good-un !!!!!

A customer called in last week with a miscellaneous misfire. We did a quick look see, but as we are so busy couldn't get into it right away. We decided that it was either plug leads or the centre coil pack. New plugs already in there.

We re-booked for later on when we had time to get on it.

The customer has been to a Subaru dealer today, who has told him very assertively, that is a common problem and they know the cure..............

" It is metal particles coming off a failing up pipe flexi joint hitting the lambda and knocking it about."

" It needs a new up pipe at £190.00, a new Lambda at £110.00 and 4 hours time to fit it. They do it all the time and it alway cures it....... "

This of course takes no account of quite how the particles from the failing up pipe get through the turbo, through the intercooler, through the engine, out the turbo and then hit the Lambda.

Of course, if the Lambda is fitted in the headers then the particles need to travel backwards down the up pipe to hit the Lambda, fighting their way down there against the exhaust gases........

Priceless !! Best one I've heard yet from a dealer.

Unless of course they are right - you'll all tell me no doubt.

In the above comment you say that the particle from the failing up-pipe get through the intercooler. Since when did exhaust gases go through the intercooler?

Well done, spotted the flaw !! give the man a prize. It should read OR through, as that was offered as another possibility. Bad day yesterday.

PS there is of course a slim chance that some particles could get into cylnders 1 & 3 due to the back wash of scavenge in the normal suck, squeeze, bang, blow, cycle. VERY slim though and certainly not able to damage a Lambda.

It's shocking. Funny in a way , unless you're the poor soul who's car they're "looking after"

I wonder what Subaru UK would make of this?

And they wonder why people go to specialists! Look no further lads, look no further!
