Get a second opinion, what you describe sounds like piston slap, which shouldn't cause you any problems at all.

I've been told by a guy my dad works with that Piston 3 next to the turbo gets starved of Oil with raped sometimes and results in knocking when cold.

Does it sound like a nail in a tin can?

I would'nt drive it unless its sorted, last thing you want is to have to buy a new bonnet as well... *BANG*

Have an oil analysis carried out. It should be able to tell you what's wearing in the engine.

Ever tried doing that?? We have, many times, and the analysis always comes back with far too much detail and even we get bogged down in tecchie stuff.

The metal particle analysis is so detailed that you think you were prospecting on Mars or somewhere the exotica they tell you about.

I've never tried one personally but others have posted theirs. It's true that there's a lot of detail but the one's I've seen give typical values for contaminants. If there's a huge difference in any of these, there's a problem. If all are OK, I would ignore the noise with a little more confidence. Like any diagnostic tool, it's only part of the story. It's one which I would try in this situation.

All may not be what it seems !
Check the top of the cam belt tensioner for any marks ! Its a known prob when ageing the hydraulic tensioner becomes week and can knock off the top of the caseing when cold starting ?
Worth a look ?
