Default Strange noise, sounds like wheel loose

I have a noise, and it has been getting louder recently, the only way to describe it is the sound like one of the front wheels is loose.

Seems to go, under acceleratin but when you lift off or are just coasting then it comes back. You can also "feel" the clonking through the car now.

Any ideas, the only thought i had would be CV joint.

I was at Santa Pod last week and it was launched a few time quite hard

Just from my limited experience. If it knocks on bumps its anti roll bar bushes.
Does braking afect the noise. I had a stuck caliper once and the brake pad rubbed constantly on the disk and rather than a squeel the pad wore out without me noticing then knocked against the brake disk.
Wheel bearings usually hum and get worse and knock when you turn corners.
Suspension joints can sometimes give your syptom since when you gun it they pull out all the slack but when you ease off the slack returns.
Could be a CV joint as you said. How often does it clunk. Is it always there and does it get faster with speed. IE a driveshaft spins faster the faster you go. A suspension joint will clunck on the bumps. If your riding the bumps fast the suspension will float over the bumps slightly so the noise will be less.

From what ive said you can try some tests ie smooth roads/bumpy roads. Tight corners ETC!

No expert just trying to help.

Seems to be there all the time, and the frequency increases with vehicle speed.

Gotta be something that turns at the same speed as the wheel.
Drive shaft. Get under and see if you can find slack in the CV joints. if you turn the wheel there is always some back lash in the gear box you need to see if you can turn the wheel without the driveshaft turning. Will be very small!
Wheel bearing. Jack her up and feel for lateral play. Again could be small

I never rule out brakes either. Any brake noise goes away under braking though. A warped disk though can give a shudder on braking!

Again im just an amature mechanic but i work as a maintenance electrician/ mechanical fitter. Im no stranger to fault finding and i was helping my DAD fix cars when i was 8 years old.

Right Thought i would start with the obvious.

All wheel nuts but the locking one were finger tight, These have obviously been tampered with. Because if they had had miraculously worked loose, surley the locking one would as well.

I am going to buy another set of locking nuts tomorrow and have two sets on.

Your saying that the noise that sounded like a loose wheel was a loose wheel?
Im sorry M8 i just figured you had that one covered. For someone to tamper with those is very dangerous. Are you sure that you didnt forget to tighten them. At very least its a vendetta at worst it could lead into attempted murder!
I was gonna ask if you checked the wheel nuts but i didnt want to patronise you!

Yea no harm done i guess.
It would be good in future that if you know what it sounds like you check it before you post....LOL
Just a joke i did it once on an escort RS turbo. Took it for a test after i did a wheel bearing and heard it was worse. Forgot to tighten fully after i dropped it. Soon as you put the wrench on to check whats wrong you realise...LOL
