Thumbs down HELP- Not firing and rough idle

My Bug Eye STi has been playing up these last two weeks. It has happened on cold starts and warm starts. It is turning over and on times has fired but with no throttle response before shortly dying out. When this has occured it has been idling really rough for 5 or so secs before it dies. Othertimes it is just turning over and not firing at all! I have left it for an hour or so a couple of times, came back to the car and it fired first time . It hasn't thrown up a CEL either, does anyone have any ideas where i might start?

I have a similar problem with warm starts only. Im told mine could be a leaky injector. Yours sounds more like ignition though to me. Coil leads and plugs should be checked.

I have just managed to bump start the car now. It fired first time then died out as a result of no throttle response. Then it fired and ran with the CEL on. I managed to get it back to the lock up and it then started 4 times and the CEL has now gone off

So its fixed for now?
If i had to make a guess id say the coil is at fault. Trace the leads back from the plugs. It wont look like the old round ones we found on escorts...lol
There are many different types fitted to imprezas depending on year.
If you can id try starting the car in a dark place and looking if you can see a visable spark in the engine bay. Could be just a lead thats insulation is broken

Found this today while trying to find the fault with my motor. It was very helpfull to me!!

Since ive had the day working on the car and was done sooner than i thought ive been trauling this forum. I found a thread that describes the oxygen sensor in the exhaust as a cause of rough idle.

I found the Diagnostic very easy to do but needed to remove the bottom peice of trim from under the steering column. Im a pretty big fellow.LOL and couldnt get to the connections without removing this.

My problem is intermittent so i had to mess about a bit starting and stopping the car before i got the CE light and then the fault code.
