In theory it tells you when your engine is suffering from pre-ignition by listening to the output of a knock sensor.. How ever in the real world the problem is you must calibrate the device to your engine by just turning down the sensitivity and if you can not be 100% sure your fuelling is already correct then the device will be no more than a set of pretty lights.. Personally I would invest in a fuel/air ratio meter..

Regardless of what you know and what you don't get a knocklink set it to full sensitive and if you're getting oranges or reds up you've got trouble.
Don't think of it as a highly tuned sensor think of it as a pre warning that something is wrong. One of the first mods I bought, and would recommend one to anyone.
